Vacation Day 22: Swimming/Epcot

Since we stayed out late (again) last night, we decided not to go early to the parks (again) today. Instead, we “slept in” (which means til the kids woke us at 9am), and lazed around the house to recuperate (again). :-) After some movies and some breakfast, we decided to go for a swim in our pool.

It was such a nice day for a swim. It was slightly overcast on and off, so the sun wasn’t beating down on us too bad. We had put the pool cover back on last time we used the pool, so the pool heat had been retained really well. Woo hoo! So the water was really nice and warm. Jeremy seems to like swimming A LOT better in warm water. He was saying “swimming fun”. It was great! Aiden did a good job being brave. He wasn’t willing to do all of the things he did back during swim lessons in the summer, but he remembered a lot of it, like kicking and superman arms and blowing bubbles. He even put his face in with Andrew toward the end of our swim. Uncle Howie went in for a little bit with us. It was a nice way to relax.

The kids took an early nap so we could get into the parks at a more reasonable hour than we usually do after naps. But they were still so tired from last night, even though they went to bed an hour early, they still slept til their usual wake-up time. Oh well! At least they were rested.

We went over to Epcot, since it’s open the latest today. First, we went over to Soarin’ to get FastPasses. Then we went next door to ride “Journey into Imagination with Figment”. We love this ride! The kids had a good time, and even got to meet Figment outside after the ride was all done. That was cool. :-)

Next, we started to walk through the World Showcase, slowly working our way across the countries to our final destination of the Candlelight Processional in the America Pavilion.

We ate dinner in the Morrocan Pavilion at the Tangerine Cafe. They had really good lamb dishes there with yogurt sauce. All of the dinners came with hummus, couscous, bread and a parsley salad. We enjoyed our dinner, then left to continue our journey toward America.

We stopped on the way in the Japan Pavilion, to look at clocks for Maria and Andrew. They sell these really neat clocks there, which we bought for both sets of our parents while on our honeymoon. But now we want one for ourselves this time! We had fun looking at them all, but couldn’t make a final decision. We will think about it and go back later.

Some of the clocks we are considering buying that we saw in the Japan Pavilion

Once in the American Pavilion, we headed for the line for the Candlelight Processional. This is a really popular show! We were there about 50 minutes ahead of time so we could get a seat. Tonight’s narrator was Dennis Franz, from NYPD Blue. He did a good job, and looked more happy than Neil Patrick Harris did when we saw him.

The sign language interpreter does such a beautiful job translating the show that it’s hard to stop watching her perform while the choir sings. Aiden noticed her, too. By the end of the evening, he was attempting to follow along with his hands to what she was signing. It was really cute! She really is excellent. It would be nice if we could tell her so.

After the show was over, it was time for us to go use our FastPasses at Soarin’. So we booked it over from the middle of the World Showcase to the Land Pavilion way back in Future World. And much to our dismay, we arrived 4 minutes too late. The ride was closed (boo boo). And we really hauled butt! I can’t believe we didn’t make it. Oh well.

Before leaving, we went to check out the store “Mouse Gears”. It’s a really big shopping area in Epcot, and we managed to spend quite a bit of time in there. In fact, we AGAIN found ourselves being among the last few people to leave the park. Somehow, no matter what time the parks close, we manage to stay there til the bitter end these days.

------------------------------------------
The best part of day 22 was the Candlelight Processional, swimming with the boys
The worst part of day 22 was running across Epcot (which is vast) to just barely miss riding Soarin’ (which often has over an hour wait).
What we learned on day 22 was it takes more than 15 minutes to run across Epcot, Morocco is a good place to get a quick bite to eat (it’s yummy and not very crowded).
The weather on day 22 was more mild than the past few days, still a bit humid and overcast. It seems to be starting to cool down. We had a nice breeze this evening.
Our character sightings on day 22 included Chip, Dale and Mickey across the Land Pavilion at the Garden Grill, Figment.
The crowd level on day 22 was pretty mild.

Hooray! Figment! He was my favorite character! I'm glad the boys got to see him!
